El Pino Australiano no es pino, sino Casuarina.  
Las hojas están segmentadas, cosa que no
ocurre en los pinos.  Como el nombre lo indica,
es nativa de Australia, pero también de
Polynesia y del Sureste Asiático.  Crece muy
rápido y porque fija el nitrógeno tolera los
suelos pobres, por lo que se ha usado para
reforestación.  Sin embargo, produce químicos
que inhiben el crecimiento de otras especies,
por lo que termina desplazando a los árboles
nativos, y se le considera en muchas partes
una especie invasora.
The Australian pine, is not a pine but rather a
Casuarina.  The leaves are segmented, which is
something pines just don´t do.  As its name
indicates, it is native to Australia, but also
Polynesia and Southeast Asia.  It grows quickly,
and because it fixes nitrogen can tolerate poor
soils.  For this reason it has been used extensively
in reforestation.  However, it also produces
chemicals which inhibit the growth of other plants,
and displaces native trees, and is considered an
invasive species in many parts.
