Garza Verde - Green Heron

La Garza Verde es una de las garzas más
pequeñas. Y una de las aves más
interesantes por su evidente inteligencia. Es
una de las pocas especies animales en las
que se ha demostrado el uso de
herramientas, en este caso, para pescar.
Frecuentemente se le ve colocando carnada
o señuelos en el agua para atraer a su presa,
a la cual espera completamente inmóvil,
parado en una rama sobre el agua. Al
acercarse lo suficiente el pez(ó rana ó
insecto) estira lentamente el cuello, como
apuntando la cabeza, y se lanza al agua para
capturar a su presa.

The Green Heron is one of the smaller herons. And
one of the most interesting birds due to its apparent
intelligence. It is one of the few animal species
known to use tools, in this case, for fishing. It is
commonly seen placing bait or lures in the water to
attract its pray, then waiting for it completely still on
a branch above the water. When the fish (or frog or
insect) gets near enough, its slowly stretches its
neck, as if taking aim, and plunges into the water to
catch its prey.
