| Capaz de llegar a medir hasta 1.6 metros, este es el más grande de los pargos Caribeños. Es de color gris o pardo, tiene labios gruesos y grandes dientes filosos claramente visibles que le dan un aspecto amenazante. Sin embargo, no representa peligro alguno para los humanos y se alimenta de peces, langosta y cangrejo. Al igual que con el Pargo Canchix, los jóvenes pueden tener pálidas barras verticales que desaparecen con la edad. Los adultos prefieren el refugio de salientes arrecifales, mientras que a los jóvenes se les encuentra entre pastos marinos y manglares. |
| Able to grow up to 1.6 meters in length, this largest of the Caribbean snappers is gray or brown colored and has fat lips and clearly visible large, sharp teeth that give it a menacing look. However, it poses no threat to humans and feeds on other fish, lobster and crab. As with the Schoolmaster, juvenile Cuberas have pale bars on their body that may fade in adulthood. Adults prefer the shelter of reef ledges, while juveniles can be found over seagrass beds and near mangroves. |
