There are at least 1,250 species of Sea Cucumber, most of which are found at great depths. However, the Mexican Caribbean is home to a few that can be found in relatively shallow waters. These are usually found on sandy areas near the reef, where they feed on waste and algae. Sea Cucumbers have a very unique skeleton, which they can rearrange at will to squeeze into tight places. They can also expel part of this skeleton as sticky threads to entangle or distract potential predators. Sometimes they may also expel part of their digestive tract a long with it,literally puking their guts out. They are gross. |
