| Había visto capullos sobre este cactus, y esperaba ansioso ver la flor, pero de un día a otro se marchitaron y secaron. Esto sucedió varias veces, y se me hizo muy raro que los capullos jamas dieran flor. Y luego una noche en que no lograba dormir, decidí salir a caminar por la playa. Era después de medianoche, y de regreso estas hermosas flores iluminadas por la luna me dejaron atónito. El misterio quedo resuelto. ¡Florea de noche! He intentado identificar este cactus, sin mucha suerte. He identificado el Género, de nombre Selenicereus, que incluye muchas especies de cactus que florean de noche, y llevan nombres como Reina de la Noche, o Princesa de la Noche. Pero no he podido determinar la especie de este ejemplar. Si alguien la sabe, por favor compártanmelo. |
| I had seen buds on this cactus, and kept expecting them to bloom, but instead from one day to the next they shriveled up and dried. This happened several times and I thought it very odd that it would bud, yet never bloom. And then one sleepless night I decided to go for a walk on the beach. It was past midnight, and on my way back I was stunned by these beautiful flowers lit by the moon. The mystery had been solved. It only blooms at night!!! I’ve tried to identify the cactus, without much luck. I have narrowed it down to a genus though, and that is Selenicereus, which includes many different species of cactus which bloom at night, with names like Queen of the Night, or Princess of the Night. But I haven’t yet been able to positively ID this particular species. If anyone knows which species this is, please let me know. |
