| Esta palma es nativa a la Península de Yucatán y la Florida, y tradicionalmente se utilizó para construir palapas. Sin embargo, actualmente está protegida debido a su lento desarrollo y hábitat relativamente limitado. Aunque localmente pueda parecer abundante, se le considera amenazado porque se le encuentra principalmente en la franja costera donde el desarrollo inmobiliario es más expansivo. La Palma Chit tiene hojas en forma de abanico que alcanzan el metro en diámetro, da frutos blancos y llega a medir 7 m de altura. En México se le considera Amenazada. |
| Native to Florida and the Yucatan Peninsula, it is also known as the Florida Thatch Palm, and was traditionally used for thatch roofs. It is currently protected in Mexico due to its slow growth rate and relatively restricted habitat. Though it may seem locally abundant, it is threatened because it is found primarily on the coastal strip where development is most expansive. Chit Palms have fan shaped leaves that can reach 1 m in diameter, gives white fruit, and can reach 7 meters in height. In Mexico this species is considered Threatened. |
