| Existen más de 20 especies de Ceiba y les distingue un tronco recto que carece de ramas excepto en las alturas, donde se extiende en una copa impresionante. Si ve un árbol con espinas en el tronco, probablemente sea una Ceiba. Muchas culturas indígenas los consideran sagrados. Para los Mayas, la Ceiba simbolizaba el universo tripartita en que el tronco representaba nuestro mundo físico, la copa simbolizaba los cielos, y las raíces el inframundo. Algunas especies tienen bellas flores, como es el caso de la Ceiba speciosa, que nos brinda grandes flores rosadas. |
| There are over 20 species of Ceiba. They characteristically have a straight trunk that is unbranched except at the top, where it extends an impressive canopy. If you see a tree with thorns on its trunk, chances are it is a Ceiba.These trees where considered sacred by many Native American cultures. For the Maya the tree represented a three-fold universe in which the trunk reflected the physical world we live in, the branches symbolized heaven, while the roots represented the underworld. Some species have beautiful flowers, as is the case with Ceiba speciosa, which gives us big pink flowers. |
