Bird of Paradise or Crane Flower

Hay varias Strelitzia, todas nativas de
Sudáfrica.   Los pétalos azules o moradas de la
flor contienen néctar en su base.  El otro
extremo sirve de perchero. Cuando un pájaro
aterriza para beber el néctar, el peso de la
misma abre el pétalo morado por la mitad y
cubriendo los pies del pájaro en polen, que es
depositado en la siguiente flor que visita.  
There are several species of Strelitzia, all native to
South Africa. The blue or purple parts of the flower
contain nectar at the base.  The other end serves
as a perch.  When a bird lands to drink the nectar,
the weight of the bird opens up the purple petal
down the middle covering the birds feet with
pollen, which is delivered to the next flower visited.
